The 2024 edition of the high-altitude marathon known as the Karakoram Challenge unfolded in the majestic mountains of Hunza Valley, drawing over 300 local and foreign participants to race along the rugged terrain of the Karakoram Highway. More than 300 runners — both local and international — took part in the event, competing under various categories including 21.1 km, 10 km, and other shorter runs. In the men’s 21 km category, Faizan Faiz claimed first place with a finish time of 1:20:11. In the women’s 21 km category, the winner was Anja Myrtveit from Sweden.

The 2024 Karakoram Challenge wasn’t just a race — it was a celebration of endurance, natural beauty, and cultural exchange. Runners traversed the dramatic landscapes of the Karakoram mountain range, offering a rare opportunity to combine serious athletic challenge with breathtaking scenery. The event helped spotlight Hunza as a destination for adventure and eco-tourism, promoting healthy lifestyle and outdoor sports among locals and tourists alike. A diverse mix of participants — from seasoned athletes to first-time runners (including older adults and newcomers) — highlighted inclusivity and the growing appeal of high-altitude running in Pakistan.
